Protecting yourself from criminals and ne'er-do-wells on social networks

October 22, 2009 by Daniel James

"HACKER WARNING," starts one recent post on my Facebook account. It continues to talk about new ways to "hack" my Facebook account and trick me into giving over my username and password to the unseen, unidentified bad guys. And this isn't the first time something like this has been talked about or reported in the news. CNN recently offered its own warning to Facebook and Twitter users. What are we to do in this age of social network ne'er-do-wells?

The answer is to take the same caution you would take offline. The obvious steps are certainly good ideas: do not give out your usernames or passwords, keep your personally identifiable information to yourself, use caution when clicking on links. But there is a more underlying issue to address: Is your social network private and secure by design?

WeOurFamily was designed from the ground up to be private and give its users the most control over their content. It was built on secure protocols to protect your information. And WeOurFamily does not have any agenda to mine your personal information to sell to advertisers. Our subscribers pay our bills, not advertisers.

So heed the "HACKER WARNING," but deal with the undelying issue of privacy and security. Sign up for a subscription to WeOurFamily today.
