Social Networking in the News: Social Networks and Your Next Job

September 2, 2009 by Daniel James

As I have said before, social networking is huge. People from all walks of life have gotten their profiles set up on one site or another, including your next boss. According to a recent article published by the AFP, nearly 50% of U.S. employers take a look at their candidate's social networking profiles. For some, this poses no threat. Others, however, may be scrambling to their profiles to clean up things before they submit their next resume.

With all the information available online now, both private and non-private, employers are looking to gain a fuller view of their potential hires. CareerBuilder has recommended that candidates "clean up their digital dirt" and to "keep gripes offline" before staring their job search. Of course, these reminders are necessary because so much information is easily accessible to unintended receipients. Using a privacy-minded social network like WeOurFamily would avoid this oversight. WeOurFamily does not allow the public to search your content or comments, keeping potential employers, as well as anyone else, out of your private life.
